Maine Bird Watching

There are many species of birds commonly found in close vicinity of the lodge including numerous types of waterfowl and birds of prey.  Several are seen close enough to make easy photography subjects.

A partial list of our birds includes the following:

  • Hummingbirds (seen within inches of our dining room windows at the Lodge hummingbird feeders)

  • Common loons (seen every day from the dining room windows)

  • Canada geese

  • Black ducks (seen every day from the dining room windows)

Birding is wonderful in the East Grand Lake area
    Common loons are everywhere
  • Cormorants

  • Seagulls (seen every day from the dining room windows)

  • Kingfishers

  • Bald eagles.

  • Flickers

  • Woodpeckers (a great variety of these...including giant pileated woodpeckers)

  • Grosbeaks

  • Barn swallows (seen every day from the dining room windows)

  • Mergansers

  • Goldeneye ducks

Hummingbirds, loons, and eagles are a specialty
