landlocked salmon fishing,
lake trout fishing begins in early May and
continues in full strength through June. Lake trout head into deeper waters
in the warmer days of July and August, and it takes a bit
more effort to catch them in these months - but they’re down there, and
can be caught in large
numbers with the correct approach. Drift fishing, using leadcore line or
downriggers are necessary techniques for successful lake trout fishing during the summer.

Lake Trout Fishing Equipment Rentals & Tackle Shop
To ease your vacation-packing burden, Rideout's Lodge rents lake trout fishing equipment
for deep-water (summer) trolling. Extra-heavy-duty
rods and reels with leadcore line, portable downriggers, and
portable fish finders are all available to Rideout's guests.
As a courtesy to our guests, we also maintain a well-stocked tackle shop.
This is done primarily to minimize the time required to find
appropriate tackle. In addition to basic fishing items like hooks,
line, sinkers, stringers, bug spray, etc., lake trout fishermen will find
the most effective streamer fly patterns, spoons and lures available
for use in our area.
 Fishing Boat Rentals at Rideout's
When fishing for Maine lake trout, it is often preferable to use a boat
that will troll very slowly. Our Lund/Honda 9.9 HP, four-stroke
combination is perfect for this. Not only will they “troll
down” extremely well, you will enjoy the Honda's low smoke and low noise
aspects as well.
Lake Trout Fishing Bait - Live Smelts & Shiners
During the early season, Rideout's has good quality live smelts available for
purchase. Shiner minnows are available later in the year.
 Maine Lake Trout Guides
If you would prefer to be guided to the hot spots, we have access to
a full complement of excellent, registered professional Maine fishing guides
that are available upon request. One of our regular guides
specializes in lake trout fishing, and is well known for catching these
fish, many in the eight-to-twelve-pound range, in large numbers in the warmer months. His fee is a bit more than the standard guide fee, but it
includes all the special “riggin” needed to catch Maine lake trout when
they are on or near the bottom.
